Christmas is approaching and you are thinking of

how you will stay into your budget and

send unique christmas cards to friends and relatives this year?

We’ve got you covered!

In this post you will learn how to make easy christmas cards at home!

Keep reading for the easiest handmade christmas card ideas you can make with your kids.

You don’t need to know origami or have fancy art and craft supplies to make unique cards this year. We will keep it as simple as possible for the children to join and add their ideas. Last but not least, you can customise them and add your personal input in these handmade Christmas card ideas.

What you will need for each card:

  • A4 pieces of coloured paper
  • glue stick
  • scissors
  • texters/markers and/or pens

Optional:

  • ribbons
  • stickers
  • wrapping paper
  • craft paper punches

In more detail…

First, you choose 2 different coloured paper pieces that will make nice contrast. Preferably, you get 2 pieces of medium thickness paper. The size of the paper pieces should be close to size of A4 or a bit smaller. Personally I got 2 A4 pieces of paper and I cut the inner paper slightly smaller, so you can see a nice frame when you open the card.

1. Christmas tree pop-up card

You need at least 3 pieces of green paper folded in half. You draw the outline of half Christmas tree and you cut it out while you are holding the green pieces of paper together as a booklet. After you complete that step you stick the middle line of the green papers together and the tree on the middle line of the card. You or your children can easily decorate the tree using texters/markers or stickers. We also used paper punches and white paper to make the white snowflakes you can see on the black paper.

2. Gifts pop-up card

On the inner piece of paper you need to draw 3 sets of horizontal lines. The top lines are shorter than the middle set and the lines at the bottom are the longest ones. You cut the lines, while the paper is folded in two. Then you push the gifts from the outside so when you close the card, the gifts are folded towards you.

Then you can decorate each gift with stickers, wrapping paper or your own designs. Our Christmas message was  ‘Unwrap yourself a joyful Christmas!’

3. Figurines and/or personalised pop-up card

You draw 2 sets of lines on the folded paper and you cut them. You push them from the outside and you stick christmas figurines, portraits or photos! Our Christmas wish in this card is ‘The best present one can hope for this years is to… spend time together!’

This is a pop-up card that you can easily personalise if you have printed photos of you and your partner, your children or friends and relatives. You can include from 2 to 4 different figurines or faces in this card.

Hot tip:

A great task for young children – like toddlers or preschool age children- is to use the craft paper punches. Also, adding stickers on the cards is a simple task that they can do. If you have a little one that is very keen to help, but you are unsure, have extra pieces of paper for them to practise and experiment. You never know … the outcome might be really nice!
